Here are some of our highlights of our week together: -"This weekend is Father's Day we made a special art piece and a card". -"In Math, we started to learn about Measurement. We are learning about standard and non-standard ways to measure". -"In gym we played a tag game called hospital tag. People with red jersey were the people who are it. People that got tagged had to go to the hospital and do jumping jacks or some activity." -"This week we wrote about Father's Day. We had to write all the reasons why we love our Dads. One thing I wrote is one reason I love my dad is because he makes the best salad." -"This week we wrote about if we could be the Teacher, what we would do for the day. One thing I would do is have the boys build a castle for all the girls out of marshmallow's." -"We finished our shape unit and got to build 3-D shapes out of marshmallows and toothpicks. I made a rectangular prism." Reminders this week: -Sprit day is on June 21st. -Fun lunch June 21st. -Sports day is June 22nd/ Hot dog forms are due. -Please wear a Calgary jersey for Sports Day. -Now accepting gently used sports equipment donations. -Last day of school June 27th. Take a look below and see all the fabulous learning we have been doing in Grade one and two this week! "This week we went to Heritage Park. On the field trip I got to make a walking stick. There was a woodworking demonstration. The guy who worked their took off the first layer of bark. Then I got to sand it.? Maryn "Today in TWAS. It was our last TWAS. One of the questions was to tell something you learned, some thing that was tricky, and something that you liked. One thing that I liked was getting to know about changes in my parents heritage." Isla "This week we did drum fit. We copied one student who was leading. It was fun." Dora "The talent show is coming up. I am doing a song with other students. The talent show is a time for people to share what they are good at." Clair "Yesterday was our last day of drum fit. We did patterns. We got to be the teacher. I got to be the teacher twice. It was fun!" Meyer "This week in school we've been making self portraits. We made them out of paper. I haven't decided what treat I will be holding yet." Jax "This week at school we did mine craft self portraits. First we made a plan. After we made our plan we got a bigger grid to do our portrait." Sara "In music we are practicing crazy eights. This is when we have singing and actions. We say "ta ta ta and rest rest rest". I love it." Colton "In math we are working on shapes. This week we went around finding shapes. Yesterday we shorted 3D shapes. One way we sorted them was by the shapes that could roll and the ones that can't roll." Addy Reminders: By Friday all home reading should be back Library book need to be returned by next Friday. Here are some of our highlights of our week together: "This week in Gym we started Drum Fit. Its like we have sticks and hit them on the ball. We also have music playing and we have to play the beat. Some students got to be teachers." Colton -"We had 80's day at school. I wore jeans and leg warmers, that I made out of a shirt. I also wore my hair in a side pony with a scrunchy." Lily -"In Book Creator we are writing a book about butterflies. I am almost done it. I included the life cycle, migration and moth or butterfly." Maggie -"This week in journals we wrote report cards on our teacher. We had to give smiley face, ok or not good and I gave all good about Ms. Craik." Charlotte -"We made shape monster in math. I did a rectangle for its body, a straight line for its mouth and 4 long triangles for the fangs and smaller ones for its teeth. Its hair was fire, and more rectangles for arms and legs." Addy -"We had the Choir wrap up party. We got to dance and sing, and we got we special pencils from Mrs. Harris. It was really FUN!". Sara -"This week we have been learning about shapes. We did some shape hunts, we made shape monsters and a shape wanted poster. We picked a shape and wrote all about it." Meyer -In music we are doing a game where you have cards with rhythms on it, Mrs. Harris claps the rhythm you have to find the card and whoever finds it first gets a point." Audrey -"We had Ms. Katrina she taught us how to save an animal, it was fox. We acted it out. We did this in case we found an animal in -our backyard." Clair -In book creator we got to choose to write either a non-fiction or fiction story on butterflies. I chose fiction story to write about."Evelyn -"We had fun lunch, it was subway. It was really yummy! It was also 80's day. I wore a side pony with a big bow in it." Elenor -"In math we made wanted poster for shapes. We had to put on them how many sides, angles and where you could find them." Danny Important Reminders: -ALL FIELD trip forms are PAST due. -Please submit your payment if you have not already done so (cash or cheque) -If you have a Heritage Park pass you need to bring the original card in by MONDAY JUNE 4th. -Please dress for the weather, we will be outside all day. Please enjoy some highlights from our week below! "This week we had the Volunteer Tea and choir got to sing some songs about appreciation. As a big group we performed Sasha." Isla "Yesterday we did a hunt for shapes outside. A birds tummy is an oval and we also saw some shapes on the sidewalk (squares)." Emma C "In math we are doing subtraction regrouping. It's where you stack the numbers on top of each other and it's a math equation that is upward and downward." Nahla "In TWAS we are interviewing our parents about their heritage." Charlotte "Some of our butterflies hatched. Five of them hatched and we saw one of their proboscis' sticking out." Clair "In Phys Ed. we are playing badminton. We are learning how to serve and how to hit it underhand. We played with a partner and practiced hitting it back and forth." Audrey and Sebastien "All of our butterflies hatched. We are going to release them to the wild. The last one to hatch was #15." Colton "We played badminton in the gym and we practiced hitting the birdie against the wall. Also, we practiced hitting the birdie up in the air." Levi "For TWAS we are going to interview our Mom and Dad and we are asking about our family heritage. They are going to write the answer next to the question and I wonder what mine will be." Ben "One of our butterflies kept sticking its proboscis out of the net. We put flowers in there and one butterfly was sucking the nectar out of it." Abby "In music we played Boomwhackers and we tried to play two songs. I got to switch and play different Boomwhackers. The Octavator cap makes the sound go lower." Jett "We are making a butterfly story. The storyboard helps you with ideas for your story and it's really fun. My story is about a butterfly that saves the world from and tsunami and a volcano!" Jayden KT Reminders Please return Heritage Park forms and money as soon as possible. Please read below and hear about your children's learning this week at school! "Today we did badminton. We tried to go back and forth by ourselves. We practiced the underhand serve." Ashlyn "This week we wrote about our caterpillars and what we think, what we wonder and what we noticed. I wonder when my caterpillar will turn into a butterfly maybe this weekend." Dora "All of our caterpillars have turned into a chrysalis." Clair "This week we have been practicing a song for the assembly. It was called Sasha. We did it in the assembly. We danced too. It was fun!" Meyer "This week at school our chrysalis got put into the net. I hope that the chrysalis will open and butterflies will come out!" Eleanor "Today we had an assembly. We thanked our teachers for teaching us. Grade 4/5 showed ukuleles, the grade 3 played their recorders, we did a big dance and it was called Sasha. We shared some of our book creators. The kinders did a big dance too!" Asher "This week we have been working on regrouping. Only the grade 2 worked on regrouping but the grade 1's practiced their subtraction too. Now our homework it to practice at home." Evelyn "This week at school we had math. We were playing dice war." Sebantien "Today we were looking at different types of butterflies. We drew one". Here are some of our highlights together this week :) -"Yesterday was the last day of Lacrosse with Coach Dan and we learned throwing the ball, flipping it and catching it". Kennedy -"We made a Mother's Day pot. We made some bugs with our fingers, and I like it". Joshua. H -"Today was Shave a Lid for Kids. I shaved my head, I also raised money and got a hat. I shaved my head to help kids with Cancer". Jayden -"This week at school we made a Mother's Day Card, we painted our hands green. We chose different colours for our fingers. In the end it was a flower". Gabby -"Today we got new questions to interview our parents in our T.W.A.S. One of the questions was How long have you lived in Calgary?". Henry -"We made a Mother's Day card, we used watercolour to make a butterfly, and on the back we wrote about our mothers". Eleanor -"In math we did minuses and it was a bit hard and also a bit easy. We solved some problems from Ms. Craik on the board". Josh -"Today we did Shave a Lid, some people in our class cut their hair. They raised some money for kids who have Cancer, this helps them go to camp Kindle". Maelle -"I shaved my head today at Shave a Lid, with some of my friends like Jayden who also did it. It was FUN!". Ben Reminders: Next Friday is a PD Day. Monday is Victoria Day long weekend. Gardening club starts on Tuesday. Sharing assembly is next Thursday at 9:00 a.m. One student per class will share the process of Book Creator. We had a wonderful week of learning! Please check out some of the highlights below! "This week we got our caterpillars. They had numbers on the top and the first caterpillar I got was number four. It looked like it ate a lot of food because it only had a little bit of food in it's container." Isla "We did a directed drawing of a caterpillar on a leaf. We drew the leaf first and then the caterpillar." Georgia "In our journals we set up a chart for observing our butterflies. I drew a picture of my caterpillar in the first box and I named her Emilia." Eleanor "We interviewed our friends and we learned about them. We wrote questions down and then asked our partners. I asked my partner what hockey player he likes." Meyer "In music we read a story called You Are a Hen. We read it to see what it was like in the olden days." Lucy "In Phys. Ed we continued Rocks and Rings and I learned how you stand when you throw a rock. It was really fun and we learned that the target is called the button" Addy "Yesterday we drew flowers. We coloured them in using four colours. These are for the Volunteer Tea. We did this with Mrs. Hamilton" Evelyn "Yesterday in math we used ten frames cards and we worked with a partner." Emma "We are painting a background and making circles to make a caterpillar because we are learning about butterflies!" Lily "This week we did Rocks and Rings. We had teams and last time blue won. They scored two points and red got one." Colton "From our wildlife presentation now I know that skunks spray liquid instead of gas." Jayden J "For TWAS we are interviewing our parents on the weekend. We have had a busy week of learning. Please read to see what our students have to say about it! This week at school we did Rocks and Rings. Rocks and rings is curling inside. You have a broom, a rock, and the house. Ashlyn This week at school we are learning about butterflies and bugs. We have been reading The Magic School Bus about butterflies and insects. Eleanor This week at school we looked at the life cycle of a butterfly. I know the four stages. One of them is the chrysalis. In the chrysalis the caterpillar turns into a butterfly. Zackary Next week we are getting butterflies. WE will be looking at them, drawing them, and we will free them in the wild. Meyer Today we made butterflies. First we drew a butterfly with pencil then we traced it with sharpie. Then we erased the pencil. Then we cut it out and coloured it with pastels. Then we glued it into our TWAS. Addy This week at school we had Western Days. We also had fun lunch. I wore a plaid shirt and jeans and I had handcuffs! Danny Today in TWAS we drew a picture of a butterfly. We labeled the parts. One part was the abdomen. Its like the belly. Isla Yesterday we learned about place value. It was fun. I did really good. Both grade 1's and 2's did it. We played a math game with tens and one. Ben This week at school in math we counted. We did place value with addition. We practiced trading or regrouping. Joshua and Ethan Reminders: Butterflies arrive some time next week! Stay tuned! We hope you have had a great week! Here are some highlights of our week together: -"This week in Art we made Spring trees, that had blossoms. For the blossoms we used cotton balls and dipped it into the paint". Isla -"We made flowers to go on our wall. We cut out the 3 flowers, and then we painted them. We also made insects and leaves to go with it". Eleanor -"We made a spring tree. First we drew branches, we painted and today we made leaves". Joshua H. -"Today in math we did a math problem, a monkey had a pile of 15 coconuts and he gave 7 to his friends. We had to see how many are left. This is a subtraction problem". Carson -"We made Lake Bonavista, we added lots of new stuff we did not have before. We forgot Subway and Little Ceasars and we added it on". Carter -In gym we played Hospital tag. A new game I did not know was Spring tag, when you got tagged you had to be full bloom Spring tree". Ethan -"We started to do some take aways. Grade 1's go up to 12 and Grade 2's go up to 18. Some stuff can be easy and some stuff can be hard for me". Emilia -"In Phys Ed our class was practicing Badminton we did not use a racket but we used foam paddles. It was really fun!". Addy _-Yesterday and today we made a window and it had all the Seasons in it. Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall". Danny -"Yesterday we celebrated the Humboldt Broncos by wearing a Jersey. If you did not have a Jersey you wore anything gold or green". Ren Important dates: -Next week is STUDENT led conferences on Thursday 4-7 and Friday 8-12. Welcome back! We hope you had a wonderful Spring Break! Below are some highlights from our week. "Today was the last day of Book Creator. We were giving nice feedback to our group. I liked Meyer's book because it had lots of pictures in it to help me understand the writing." Carter "Yesterday we did In-Line skating. The best part was that it was my first time on rollerblades!" Jack "In art we made a self portrait of ourself yelling with our hair flying. We used paint and we had to get lots of water and then we dabbed on our paper. Then we blew the paint with straws." Jett "This week in math we were working on a picture and we made math stories. Our group got a picture of 6 kids rollerblading. One of my ideas was, Uhoh there are too many kids rollerskating and not enough skates and helmets. How many kids do we need to take away so that we have enough?" Addy "We mapped the school and we made a legend first so that we know what was what. The library is the biggest and the library also has the most books. My symbol was a book fot the library." Emily VK "In music we learned a song that we get to dance to and tap the beat to. We have to walk to the beat of the song." Lucy "Coming up soon is Shave a Lid for a Kid. Lots of kids are doing it. It helps other kids that have cancer." Ben "In math we played a math game called war and we each got a stack and we had to add or subtract the cards. The person with the bigger number won the cards." Dylan and Isla "In math we used the power of ten cards to make ten."
